How we work
Everything starts with a phone call. There are no web forms to fill out and no waiting for an email reply. You describe the problem to a person, and we decide together whether it needs a plumber tonight or can be scheduled.
Before work starts you hear a clear price. If the plumber finds something unexpected behind a wall or under a floor, the price is explained again before that new work begins.
Everything is paid for after you agree to the price, and nothing is added without your say.
Where we work
North Chicago is home base. We also serve Waukegan, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Libertyville and Gurnee. Each of those pages is written from local public sources about water, sewers and housing.
For the full list of what we do, see our plumbing services. The most common requests are drain cleaning, water heater replacement and leak detection.
What we will not claim
You will not find invented review counts, awards or founding dates on this site. We keep claims to what we can stand behind: licensed and insured, open 24/7, a clear price before work starts, and same-day appointments when available.
If a job is outside our work, we say so on the phone and suggest where to look. That honesty saves you a wasted visit.
What a call looks like from our side
When the line rings, the first job is to sort the problem by urgency. Water spreading across a floor, sewage in a tub, or a tank leaking onto a basement slab goes to the front of the queue. A dripping faucet or a slow tub can usually be booked for the same day or the next one.
We ask where the water is, whether you can reach the main shutoff, and whether anyone in the building is at risk from wet electrical outlets. Those three answers decide what we tell you to do in the next five minutes and what goes on the truck.
Stop the damage
We talk you through the main valve, the fixture shutoff, or the breaker, depending on the problem.
Set the visit
You get a window when a plumber can arrive, based on the schedule that day. We do not promise an exact arrival time.
Agree on the price
The plumber inspects, explains the options, and quotes before starting.
The kinds of buildings we see
North Chicago has a mix of older single-family houses, small two to four unit buildings, and larger apartment complexes, and about two thirds of homes are rented. Census figures put the median home at 1973, with roughly a third built before 1960. That mix shapes our work: shared stacks in apartment buildings, older shutoff valves in pre-1960 houses, and sewer laterals that have been in the ground for decades.
The city draws its water from Lake Michigan through its own plant, and it publishes an annual water quality report. Part of the city is on a separate Navy water system, so the report does not describe every tap. If you are unsure which system you are on, ask the water department before you buy a filter or a softener.
How we keep the information on this site honest
Local facts on our town pages come from city, village, county and utility publications. Where a source did not give a number, such as water hardness for some towns, we say it is not published instead of guessing. We would rather leave a gap than print a made-up figure.
You can see the result on pages like water service line repair and basement waterproofing, where figures are tied to a named public plan or report. If you spot something that looks out of date, call and tell us.
When we are the wrong call
Some situations need someone else first. A gas smell means leaving the building and calling the gas utility or 911 before you call any plumber. A downed wire near standing water means staying away and calling the power company. A city water main break in the street is the city's job, though we can help once water reaches your building.
For anything else involving water inside your walls or drains, the 24/7 line is the right call.
