What hydro jetting does that a cable cannot
A drain cable cuts or hooks through a blockage and leaves a channel. The coating on the pipe wall stays in place and the line narrows again. A jetter feeds a hose with a special nozzle into the pipe and sprays water at high pressure in several directions, stripping grease, scale, and soft debris off the wall.
That is why it fits lines that have been cleared before and slowed down again. Heavy grease from a kitchen line and mineral buildup in an older pipe are the classic cases. Fine roots can be cut with the right nozzle, though large root masses may need a cutter first.
Urgent jetting situations
Some blockages cannot wait for a scheduled visit.
A main line that is backing up into a lower unit, a kitchen line that has stopped a restaurant or a shared household kitchen, and a floor drain that overflows each time someone uses a bathroom above are urgent. We take calls at any hour and offer same-day service when a jetting unit and technician are free.
If water is already on the floor, stay out of it and keep children away. Tell us how many fixtures are affected and where the lowest drain is. That helps us decide whether to jet through a cleanout or a roof vent.
When we do not jet
High-pressure water is not right for every pipe. Cracked, collapsed, or badly offset lines can be made worse. Very old clay or thin cast iron may need a gentler method or a repair. Joints that are already loose can wash out.
That is why we run a camera before we jet when the pipe's condition is unknown. If we see damage, we explain it and move to sewer line repair. If the line is sound, jetting goes ahead and you see before and after footage.
Buildings in North Chicago that tend to need it
Roughly 2,229 North Chicago housing units are in buildings with five or more units, and about 815 of those are in buildings with twenty or more. Shared stacks and long horizontal drains in larger buildings collect grease and wipes from many households. A single cable pass may clear one apartment and leave the shared line coated.
Kitchens in mixed-use buildings and shared household kitchens add cooking grease to that load. Tell us the building type and the number of units when you call, so we bring the right hose length.
How a jetting visit works
Camera first
We look at the pipe and confirm it is sound enough for pressure.
Set up access
We use a cleanout, a pulled fixture, or a roof vent, and protect nearby surfaces.
Jet the line
We run the hose in stages, working from the far end of the clog back toward the cleanout.
Check the result
We camera or flow-test the line again so you can see the pipe wall is clean.
Advise a schedule
For a grease-heavy line, we may suggest a routine cleaning interval.
Cable, jetter, or camera: which one fits
| Situation | Best first tool | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Single sink clog near the fixture | Hand tool or small cable | Quick and low risk |
| Line that slows again every few weeks | Camera, then jetting | Coating is likely left on the wall |
| Main line with grease buildup | Jetting | Washes the wall clean |
| Suspected crack or sag | Camera | Pressure could worsen damage |
| Large root mass | Cutter, then jetting | Clears bulk first, then scrubs |
Our drain cleaning page covers the lighter tools, and our sewer camera inspection page shows what the camera records.
What changes the price of hydro jetting
What changes the price
Jetting is equipment-heavy work. The price follows the size of the job and how hard the pipe is to reach.
Ask whether jetting fits your line before we send the truck.

Yes. We take urgent drain and main-line calls any hour and dispatch from Skokie Highway. We may start with a cable to relieve a backup and schedule full jetting right after if the camera shows the pipe can take it.
On sound pipe, no. On cracked or collapsed pipe it can, which is why we use a camera first and stop if we see damage.
Many jobs are done in a few hours. A long main with heavy buildup can take more, and we give you an estimate when we see the line.
It cleans more of the pipe wall, so it holds longer on greasy or scaled lines. For a simple fixture clog, a cable is quicker and costs less.
Yes. A regular schedule can reduce emergency backups, and we discuss intervals after we see how fast the line builds up. Our Waukegan service area is a short drive too.
It can clear fine roots and clean the area afterward. Roots will grow back unless the pipe entry point is repaired, and we tell you if the camera shows that.
