How we cover the area

Our base is 3100 Skokie Highway in North Chicago, and every town on this page sits within a short drive of it. We do not publish drive times because traffic, weather and the day's schedule change them. We will tell you a realistic window on the phone.

Each town has its own page because the problems differ. Waukegan and North Chicago share a lot of older housing. Lake Bluff has clay soil and ravines. Gurnee is newer, with moderately hard water and a river corridor that floods. Reading your own town page tells you what to watch for.

What to expect from a call in any of these towns

The process is the same everywhere. You describe the problem, we pick the right crew, you hear a clear price before work starts, and urgent calls are answered around the clock. What changes from town to town is the paperwork: some villages ask for a permit on a water heater swap, some on sewer work, and some on neither.

We tell you which office to ask rather than quoting a rule we cannot check. If you want the usual starting point, see emergency drain cleaning for backups or emergency leak detection for hidden water.

Not sure whether your address is in range? Call and read us the street.

Addresses right on the edge of a town line sometimes belong to a different village or city than the mailing address suggests. That changes which permit office applies, so read us the street and we will point you to the right one.

Why the town pages differ so much

A plumber who treats Libertyville like Waukegan misses the point. Libertyville has a historic downtown, a village-run sewage plant and drainage study areas along the Des Plaines River. Waukegan runs its own lake-fed water plant and recorded more than a hundred flood problem areas after the July 2017 storm.

Lake Forest asks for a home sewer inspection when a house is sold, which matters to anyone buying or selling there. Lake Bluff recommends a battery backup on sump pumps. Those are the details each page is built around, and they decide what we check first when we arrive.

Use the cards below to jump to your town. If you are comparing services first, all plumbing services lists them with their own local notes.

Nearby places that are not on this list

Smaller communities close to North Chicago, such as Green Oaks and Knollwood, fall between our town pages. Calls from there are common, and the nearest page in this list tells you the soil, water and sewer conditions most likely to apply.

If your town is farther out, call anyway. We would rather say honestly that a visit is too far than leave you guessing.

Before you call from a town on this list

Have three things ready: the street address, what you can see, and whether the main water shutoff is closed. If you rent, mention it, because landlords or building managers often control the shutoff and the decision to approve repairs.

If sewage is involved, keep children and pets out of the area and do not run more water down any drain. For a gas smell, leave the building first. Those steps apply in every town and make the visit faster once a plumber is on the way.

For planned jobs such as a new water heater or a camera look at an old sewer line, call during the day and we will find a time. Visit the sewer camera inspection page if you are buying a home and want the line checked first.
